I’m working on a travel article about a trip I took to England a few years ago. It brought back a wonderful memory of the North York moors.
When I was in Yorkshire I went in search of the remains of a strip of ancient road and it just happened to be in the middle of the moors. It turns out the road likely isn’t Roman but I’m so glad I went because the landscape was spectacular.

In late September the moorlands were desolate and purplish-red, coloured by dying heather. Swaledale sheep have the run of the place. We got stuck behind a bunch of them on the road and it was a while before they got over to let us pass.

The roads dip into little streams and we had to ford several. Going into Grosmont we came upon a stream that was 3 feet high and had to turn back and go around a different way.

We ended the day in Whitby on the coast, wandering around the ruins of Whitby Abbey.

Now here it is your moment of mosaic. A peacock mosaic from Leicester taken on the same trip.
The show “Heartbeat” is filmed near Whitey.
Yes at Goathland. I didn’t know that at the time or I would have gone there.
